g John Taylor's biography 'In the Pleasure Groove: Love, Death, and Duran Duran' (2012). Although not quite up there with Pulp's 'Truth and Beauty' (2003) or Depeche Mode's 'Stripped' (2008), it is still, nevertheless, quite an entertaining read. Reading this has, of course, revived my interest in Duran Duran's first two albums 'Duran Duran' (1981) and the follow-up 'Rio' (1982). In turn this has got me thinking about the contribution of keyboard player Nick Rhodes. Must admit that I have never really taken him seriously as a performer but his phasey synthesizer textures were an integral part of the early Duran Duran sound. Turns out that he started off with a Crumar Performer. Nick Rhodes also had a book published in 1984 called 'Interference'. The book is a simply a collection of close-up Poloriod images taken off various TV screens during the bands 1983-84 tour. From what I recall, I don't think the book was particularly well received at the time. I used to own a copy but gave it away to a Birmingham 'Duranie' during my teacher training days. A nice gesture on my part but some regret as the book is worth quite a bit now.
